I played with the legendary Jack DeJohnette tonight!
It was in the big theater with about 1200 people packed in. It was almost a
surreal concert.

We rehearsed all afternoon and got the tunes
together that we were going to play. The band was Jack, Jason Palmer (trumpet),
Nir Felder (guitar), Emiliano C (bass), Edgar Dorantes, the festival director,
(piano) and myself.

Then we had sound check.

The concert was magical. There
were so many special moments where we all connected. Playing with Jack is
like having a giant hand right under me supporting and inspiring me through
every note. Throughout a song he supports us all and at the same time sets up
these whirlwinds and dynamics. It really pushes the music to the next level. I
wish you could have heard the drum solos he did. They were UNREAL.
It was so so inspiring playing with this master of music. It is such an
incredible lesson. There’s this special "it” factor with the masters that
makes everything sound so musical. I don’t how else to say it. The
music sounds so musical! Hehe.

After our concert we went to see Daniel Ian
Smith’s concert and get something to eat, but is was packed and couldn’t get a
table so they took us to a steakhouse restaurant and we ran into Jack and Lydia
DeJohnette and ended up having a late dinner with them until 1:30AM. Jack is
such a cool guy too. We had some great conversation about all kinds of things.
