Went out to the town of Lisbon today. It was a short train ride away but here’s a classic story of the "tourist on the train.” We were trying to get off at a specific stop where all the museums were and there were lots of touristy things to do. So we rode the train, went along and then realized we past the destinations by 3 stops. Now this train is not anything close to "stops” on the Brookline T, stops are not close together. If you miss a stop you’re definitely taking a hike. So we got off at this particular stop and it happened to be the last one before the train turned around. We got back on the same train and traveled back. So we got ready to get off on our stop and the train stopped, but the doors wouldn’t open! We had a woman get up quickly motioning to press the button. There were two buttons by the door, one green (motioning opening arrows) and the other red. So we panicked pushing and pushing the green button but nothing opened. Too late. The train traveled on! Oh boy, the art of being a tourist huh? Anyways, something in the sky was obviously telling us we shouldn’t be trying to get to this stop.
We ended up taking a cab to a place nearby and walked around. It was nice; it was quiet neighborhood where we could see real house and tiny alleyways. Everything seems captured in this beautiful ancient way all the original buildings, beautiful architecture. It really is an art. It’s just about as opposite as you could go from living in a westernized city. We went into some really cool shops and stopped in this small great restaurant.
That was def needed for me because it was so HOT! And I mean hot.. def in the 90s and walking around in hot and humid gets tiring fast (at least for me.) We walked up and after reaching the highest point saw a beautiful view of the city and water. There was a stunning castle near by too.
We came back in the late afternoon and took a nap. Then my mom, dad and I went to a really nice restaurant on the cliff overlooking the water and celebrated my mom’s birthday.
